Conventional petroleum-based synthetic amorphous polymers (SAP) are extensively used in agriculture, beauty and diapers for their absorption capabilities.

From a health perspective, prolonged or repeated exposure to petroleum based SAP can cause skin irritation, contact dermatitis, allergies, and potentially more severe conditions such as hormone disruption, reproductive issues, and cancer. Environmentally, petroleum-based SAP are derived from non-renewable fossil fuels, contributing to resource depletion. Their production, use, and disposal generate pollution, including persistent plastic waste that contaminates land and oceans. Diapers are the most common product that contain SAP.
Finally we can replacing conventional petroleum-based SAPs with fully bio-based, biodegradable, and non-toxic AC BioSAP derived from abundant, locally available biomaterials.

Uniquely, AC BioSAP can be made from range of biomaterials, such as corn, rice, wood waste etc. This enables felxible production, reduction in water usage, while reducing reliance on finite fossil fuel resources. Importantly, the low-cost production generally emits lower carbon emissions and energy consumption compared to fossil-based SAPs. Importantly, bio-SAPs are biodegradable, breaking down naturally in the environment, which mitigates persistent plastic pollution—a serious problem with petroleum-based SAPs. This switch would help decrease soil and water contamination, reduce landfill waste, and lessen overall ecological footprint, supporting ecosystem conservation and circular economy goals.
